π 4JJ1 (2016-2020 DPF) / 4JJ3 Performance Camshaft Set - Intake + Exhaust
More Duration. More Airflow. Fits the Engines Nobody Else Covers | FuseTech
The camshaft upgrade for the 4JJ1s and 4JJ3s the rest of the market left behind.
Most aftermarket 4JJ1 performance cams only suit the early aluminium rocker cover engines. This FuseTech intake + exhaust camshaft set is built for the DPF-era 4JJ1-TCX, the Euro 5 engine Australia received from mid-2016 (plastic rocker cover, roller rocker valvetrain), and the 4JJ3 in the current-generation D-MAX, MU-X and BT-50. Isuzu catalogues both engines on the same base camshaft numbers, which is why one set covers the pair. Revised lobe profiles run more lift and duration than the factory sticks, moving more air in and more exhaust energy out for stronger response and top-end pull on tuned builds.
β οΈ PERFORMANCE UPGRADE: Professional installation strongly recommended. Factory camshaft gears must be transferred onto these camshafts, and cam timing must be set correctly. ECU tuning recommended to get the full benefit.

β Key Features
- π Complete Set: Intake and exhaust camshafts, matched as a pair
- π More Lift & Duration: Revised lobe profiles over the factory camshafts for improved airflow and response
- 𧩠DPF-Era & 4JJ3 Fitment: Suits the plastic rocker cover engines most aftermarket cams don't cover. Isuzu runs both engines on shared base cam numbers, so one set does the lot
- π₯ Turbo-Friendly: More exhaust energy to spool larger turbos on upgraded builds
- π§° Reuses Factory Gears: No proprietary drive gear required, factory cam gears transfer across
π§ Vehicle Compatibility
- Isuzu D-MAX - 4JJ1-TCX DPF (mid-2016 to 2020)
- Isuzu MU-X - 4JJ1-TCX DPF (mid-2016 to 2021)
- Isuzu D-MAX RG - 4JJ3 (2020+)
- Isuzu MU-X - 4JJ3 (2021+)
- Mazda BT-50 TF - 4JJ3 (2020+)
Quick fitment check (trust this over your build year): plastic rocker cover + DPF fitted + injector codes starting "9F" = you're in the right place. Aluminium rocker cover (2005 to mid-2016 pre-DPF 4JJ1) = this set is not for you. Australia changed over around June 2016, so 2016 builds exist on both sides of the line. Check the cover, not the compliance plate.
Buying from overseas listings? Thai suppliers label this cam family "Euro 4" or "15-22" because Thailand switched to the plastic cover engine before Australia did. Ignore the Thai years, the rocker cover material is what matters.

β Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will these camshafts fit my 2017-2020 D-MAX with the DPF?
A: Yes, that's exactly what this set is designed for. The DPF-era 4JJ1-TCX (from mid-2016 in Australia) uses a revised valvetrain (plastic rocker cover, roller rockers) that most aftermarket 4JJ1 cams don't cover.
Q: Are the DPF 4JJ1 and 4JJ3 camshafts really interchangeable?
A: Yes, at OE level. Isuzu's parts catalogue lists both engines against the same base camshaft numbers (intake 8-98228-490-2, exhaust 8-98228-493-2), with the 4JJ3 receiving later revisions of the same parts. One performance set covers both engines.
Q: Will they fit my 2012-2016 D-MAX?
A: No. Pre-DPF 4JJ1s (aluminium rocker cover, 2005 to mid-2016) use the earlier valvetrain and need a different camshaft set. Check your rocker cover and injector codes if unsure.
Q: My D-MAX is a 2016 build. Which family am I in?
A: 2016 is the changeover year in Australia, so check the hardware: plastic rocker cover with a DPF means this set fits; aluminium rocker cover means it doesn't. Send us your VIN if you're not sure.
Q: Do I need to reuse my factory cam gears?
A: Yes. The factory camshaft gears are transferred from your original camshafts onto the FuseTech camshafts during installation.
Q: Do I need a tune after fitting performance camshafts?
A: ECU tuning is recommended. You'll feel some improvement from the profiles alone, but the set delivers its best results paired with tuning and supporting airflow mods.
