FuseTech Performance Intake + Exhaust Set Alloy Cover 4JJ1 + 4JK1 Reuses Factory Gears Afterpay, Humm, Klarna, Zip Free Express Shipping AU

The camshaft upgrade for the pre-DPF 4JJ1, the engine that built the Aussie tourer scene.

This FuseTech intake and exhaust camshaft set suits the aluminium rocker cover 4JJ1 and 4JK1, the pre-DPF engines fitted in Australia from the mid-2000s to mid-2016 across D-MAX, Colorado RC, RA7 Rodeo and early MU-X. Revised lobe profiles run more lift and duration than the factory sticks: more air in, more exhaust energy out, stronger response and top-end pull on tuned builds, especially with an upgraded turbo hanging off the manifold.

Performance upgrade. Professional installation strongly recommended. Factory camshaft gears must be transferred onto these camshafts and cam timing set correctly. ECU tuning recommended to get the full benefit.

Spec Snapshot
  • Configuration: matched intake and exhaust camshaft pair
  • Profile: increased lift and duration over stock
  • Engine fitment: 4JJ1-TC 3.0L and 4JK1 2.5L with aluminium rocker cover (2005 to mid-2016)
  • Replaces OE: intake 8-98288-940-0 / -1 (cross 8-98003-129-3), exhaust 8-98288-946-1 (cross 8-98003-130-3)
  • Cam gears: factory gears transferred to the new camshafts (reused)
  • Brand: FuseTech Performance

Key Features
  • Complete set: intake and exhaust camshafts, matched as a pair
  • More lift and duration: revised lobe profiles over the factory camshafts for improved airflow and response
  • Covers 3.0L and 2.5L: the alloy-cover 4JJ1 and 4JK1 share the same camshafts, so one set suits both engines
  • Turbo-friendly: more exhaust energy to spool larger turbos, the classic pairing for 44mm and larger turbo upgrades
  • Reuses factory gears: no proprietary drive gear required

Quick fitment check (trust this over your build year): aluminium rocker cover, no DPF, injector codes starting "5F" or "72" means you are in the right place. Plastic rocker cover (DPF-era 4JJ1-TCX from mid-2016, or any 4JJ3) means you need the 4JJ1 DPF / 4JJ3 performance camshaft set instead. Australia changed over around June 2016, so 2016 builds exist on both sides of the line. Check the cover, not the compliance plate.

Buying from overseas listings? Thai suppliers label this cam family "Euro 1/2/3" or "05-14" because Thailand switched to the plastic cover engine before Australia did. Ignore the Thai years. The rocker cover material is what matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will these camshafts fit my 2012 to 2016 pre-DPF D-MAX?

A: Yes, provided it has the aluminium rocker cover and no DPF. That is the engine this set is built for, along with all earlier alloy-cover 4JJ1s back to the RA7 Rodeo and RC Colorado.

Q: Will they fit the DPF-era 4JJ1 or the 4JJ3?

A: No. The plastic rocker cover engines (DPF 4JJ1-TCX from mid-2016 and all 4JJ3s) use a revised roller rocker valvetrain with different camshafts. We stock a separate FuseTech set for those engines.

Q: Do these fit the 4JK1 2.5L?

A: Yes. The alloy-cover 4JK1 shares its camshafts with the 4JJ1, so the same set covers both the 2.5L and 3.0L.

Q: What OE part numbers do these replace?

A: Intake 8-98288-940-0 / 8-98288-940-1 (also cross-referenced as 8-98003-129-3) and exhaust 8-98288-946-1 (also cross-referenced as 8-98003-130-3).

Q: Do I need to reuse my factory cam gears?

A: Yes. The factory camshaft gears are transferred from your original camshafts onto the FuseTech camshafts during installation.

Q: Do I need a tune after fitting performance camshafts?

A: ECU tuning is recommended. You will feel some improvement from the profiles alone, but the set delivers its best results paired with tuning and supporting airflow mods.
