The electronic VNT actuator for the Garrett GTB1749V / GTB1749VK turbo used on the 2.2L P4AT DuraTorq in the Ford Ranger PX1, Mazda BT-50 UP and UR and Ford Transit. Supplied as a standalone stepper motor so a dead actuator does not cost you a whole turbo.
Typical symptoms are limp mode, under-boost or over-boost with the turbo itself mechanically fine: no shaft play, no oil leak, no whine. If the scan tool is reporting an actuator or boost control fault and the turbo spins clean, the stepper motor is the repair.

Vehicle Fitment
The Ranger 2.2L changed turbos at the PX2. From 06/2015 Ford moved the Ranger 2.2L to the GTD1449VZ turbo (831157 / 889938), which takes a completely different actuator. Check your turbo ID plate before ordering. If it reads 831157 or 889938 you need the SU-001 actuator instead.

Some early Ranger PX2 builds carried over the 787556 / 854800 turbo. If your PX2 turbo ID plate matches the Garrett list below, this is still the correct actuator for it.
This actuator does not suit any 3.2L P5AT application, and does not suit Ranger or Everest 2.2L vehicles running the GTD1449VZ turbo.

Fitting and Calibration Notes
- Electronic actuators may require calibration after installation. Have a scan tool and the correct procedure ready before you start.
- Skipping calibration can leave the vehicle in limp mode or throw boost control faults even with a good actuator fitted.
- Set the linkage to the same effective length as the unit coming off before final tightening.
- Always confirm the turbo ID before ordering. Fitting an actuator calibrated for a different turbo can cause over-boost or under-boost.
- Professional installation is recommended.

Will this actuator fit a Ranger PX2 or PX3 2.2L?
Usually not. From 06/2015 Ford moved the Ranger 2.2L to the Garrett GTD1449VZ turbo (831157 or 889938), which takes the SU-001 actuator. Some very early PX2 builds carried over the older 787556 or 854800 turbo, so check the turbo ID plate rather than the model year.
How do I know if my turbo takes the G-88 actuator?
Check the ID plate on the turbo. If it reads 787556 or 854800 in any of their suffix variations, this is the correct actuator. Model year alone is not reliable because Ford and Mazda ran different turbo families across the same platforms.
Does this suit a Mazda BT-50 2.2L?
Yes. The BT-50 UP and UR 2.2L P4AT ran the GTB1749V turbo family from 2011 through to 2020, so this is the correct actuator for BT-50 2.2L applications. Confirm against the turbo ID plate or the Mazda part number U203-13-700A before ordering.
Can I replace just the actuator instead of the whole turbo?
Yes, if the turbo itself is mechanically sound. If there is no shaft play, no oil leak and no whine, but the vehicle is in limp mode with an actuator or boost control fault code, replacing the stepper motor on its own is the usual repair.
Does the turbo actuator need to be calibrated after fitting?
It may. Electronic VNT actuators often require a calibration or relearn procedure with a scan tool after installation. Without it the vehicle can stay in limp mode or throw boost control fault codes even with a good actuator fitted.
